THE ADVANTAGE of SPOT FREE
WATER (DEIONIZATION)
Water is taken for granted everyday of our lives. We drink,
cook, and use water for almost every application in the home
and in business. It is scarce in some areas, plentiful in
others, polluted in some rivers and nearly pure in others.
Pure water is abundant in nature but as "the universal
solvent" it becomes easily contaminated with just about
whatever it comes in contact with. In its purest form water
does not conduct electricity, so one way to measure the purity
of water is by testing its conductivity. (See back for
testing). Another condition that we have all noticed is the
spotting that occurs on our windows. These spots appear as
areas of white or gray. When tap water has been sprayed on, or
otherwise applied to the window and has dried off.
Calcium carbonate is the main component of hard water and it
is present in many minerals principally limestone and gypsum.
Soft water and softened water are sometimes spoken to mean the
same, but in window washing it is not. The outcome of white
residue is more evident on the window with softened water
because chemically the minerals are still in the water as a
dissolved solid. Softened water is a product of a Soft Water
Conditioning Unit. Calcium and sodium ions are exchanged and
form different compounds that are more soluble in the water.
This is why when washing clothes in softened water there are
more suds produced, yet the chemicals are still in the water
and when allowed to dry on a window spotting will occur.
With hard water, deionization is the only chemical process
capable of removing calcium salts from hard water, however
evaporation (distilled) and Reverse Osmosis can separate the
water into two streams, one with reduced particles and the
other with an increased particle content. An ion exchange
removes unwanted ions from raw water by transferring them to a
solid material, called an ion exchanger. Simply, a
deionization tank is a mixed bed of resins beads that are
positively and negatively charged. All particles that have
either a positive or a negative charge, with a deionization
tank, they are attracted to the opposite charge and remain in
the tank, creating water that is 99.99% pure. With spot free
water your windows dry spotless without the need of wiping the
contaminates off.
